Two women fall in love in 1940s New Zealand and despite the impossibility that governs their lives, they make a 'what-the-hell' decision that reconfigures their world.
What a beautiful film! Dialog would have been a big distraction. The lesbian thread was moving, but also evocative was the landscape of old age. I can only imagine how having 80 years of challenging history — and perhaps 60 with another person or two — could be hard to live with, day in and day out. Although I rooted for the home team, I was also moved by how old Doug fed and cared for old June.
